The Language - in- Between



The work will consist of the creation of a series of alphabets which interrogate Language from the departure point of natural forms: the lunar cycle, butterflies, shells, etc. These texts will be collected into a book. The writing of the book itself will be a performative act and will function as "source" for comparison with the staging to be created in the contexts to which I am invited. A possible structure for the book could come from a pre-existing text. Writing therefore as putting to page of a pre-existing text. I am apparently in front of an empty page, I am about to write a book. What is my act of writing if everything is already written? When I say already written I do not mean that everything has already been written but that everything comes to me already in a written form. The light from the stars that comes to me like a memory of itself. The spiral form of shells The symmetrical growth of crystals. Every piece of writing can only exist in the form of the already "given". This already is the time of anticipation. Writing does not postpone a given event captured in signs to be deciphered: it is an act in which I put an end to time, every single word puts an end to itself anticipating the sense that does not reside in the word in itself but in the interval of consciousness to which the word opens where it is precisely writing which is absent. Its sense is in an event and every event lacks its object. This lack is the place of revelation of Language or of theatre. What is this absent writing that presents itself in the form of the already written?
"Every manifestation of human spiritual life can be conceived of as a kind of language and this conception opens up new problems like every truthful method everywhere" W. Benjamin.
This is an already existent sentence. It is the first sentence of the text in question "The Language as Such and the Language of Man" the text which will give structure to the book I am writing. It is not the first sentence of the book you are about to read. The already written always comes in the form of that which you are about to read. Just as I am in a process in which writing puts an end to itself in the writing you are in a process in which reading is always about to be.
This work in addition to posing certain challenges with respect to the shifting of relational paradigms between theatre and writing interests me insofar as it proposes the "practise" of theatre in the aperture of a possible practical collective today (a collective which is neither a group nor any other kind of association, but the meeting of individuals that share in the creation of moments, each from their own irreducible trajectory).
