Scandicci Cultura - Teatro Studio

Scandicci Cultura is the institution for the Cultural Services of the Scandicci Town Authorities. Set up in 1996, it is in charge of the Library, the Historical Records, the Teatro Studio, the Music School and Ginger Zone, the youth creativity centre. It organises and promotes cultural initiatives in collaboration with various Associations of the town. It carries forward European projects of international exchange and higher education courses, among which "Bibliodoc" for librarians and "Cultural Planning" for cultural experts for businesses and the enhancement of the territory, together with bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Florence City Authorities and Assindustria. Scandicci Cultura belongs to a number of networks such as the Association Firenze dei Teatri, Federculture, the Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo and the Sdiaf for the management of the Library. It has a privileged line of collaboration with the Prato Town Authorities as regards policies for the young, contemporary art and creativity. It promotes participation in cultural initiatives through a Culture Card, distributed free throughout the outlets of the system, with a specific mailing list that includes more than 6,000 users.

The Teatro Studio has been operating since 1991 as a space for research on new languages, to harmonise a modern-day town like Scandicci with the innovations in the cultural and artistic spheres. Its role is to provide nationwide coverage on themes regarding multimedia, architecture and performing arts. It has hosted many of the foremost contemporary figures, from Sandro Lombardi and Federico Tiezzi to Virgilio Sieni, from Giancarlo Cauteruccio to the Societas Raffaello Sanzio, from Motus to Teatri Uniti, from Bob Wilson to Jean Baudrillard, from Ascanio Celestini to Branco Battiato. Since 2007, the artistic direction has been in the hands of Giancarlo Cauteruccio with the Krypton Company; the artistic residencies have been frequented by the following companies: Kinkaleri, Egumteatro, Gogmagog and Piccoli Principi. It is a place of artistic production and promotion, and has contributed to the realisation of shows on the European scene that have received recognition and awards in highly-esteemed contexts such as the Ubu prize and the award from the national association of theatre critics. In 2006 it produced and realised the most important Italian project for the centenary of Samuel Beckett's birth with shows from Japan and France, and with the participation of artists such as Glauco Mauri, Giulia Lazzarini, Paolo Graziosi, Enzo Moscato and Franca Valeri.

The Teatro Studio project mainly addresses the younger generations, and includes specific training periods (on the culture of the actor, theatrical expression, techniques and the staging of shows), and collaborates with state and private training agencies. Of particular importance is the collaboration with the University of Florence (Architecture, Progeas, Dams), with the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence, with the Istituto Superiore di Industrial Design and with the Regional Office for the Right to University Study.
An open stage space with central plan facility available, allows the greatest possible flexibility in staging. With seating for up to 400 people, its spaces can be disposed in five different ways of composition. Its adaptability makes it possible to host visual events, cultural and business meetings, film and photographical sets, fashion shows, dj production and sets. Up to 2010, the artistic management is entrusted to Giancarlo Cauteruccio's Krypton Theatrical Company
