L'EXPERIENCE HARMAAT
Fabrice Lambert
SOLAIRE

A light installation as privileged partner
There's this particular phenomenon; that of the eye. We observe its reactions to movement (speed, trajectories...) and we understand that between light and shade there are spatial events, like a network that is close to what we call memory.

This experience led us to the creation of an installation for stage: « Slide ». It's a light device that is activated through manual image-movements in relation to the movements happening on stage. For the project a series of quotidian photographs will be made, showing the performers in different landscapes. These images, through the light designers manipulations, will operate and modify the texture of the space as part of a successive play between light and shade as to give a dynamic perception reminding the function and the sensation of memory: «I recognise this!», «This reminds me of that».

How does memory influence in present time the actor or the spectator?

Technical characteristics of the project:
The work with "Slide" is a study of the theatrical dynamic using it's traditional tools but thought of in terms of modern imagery thanks to the notion of pixel. The light on stage is the consequence of the way the pixels are associated in the restored image. The path of association is triggered by the kinesthetic concept established together with the dancers.

"Slide" comes from the research project Shape (whose concept was introduced in a live presentation at the Bastille Theatre in Paris on the 28 February 2008).
The base of Shape, which calculates and interprets an organic energy in light, will be used to develop, with the help of a consultant in interactive numerical system, an interface adapted to the performance Solaire.

"Slide" is today a prototype that requires research time in situ in order to fully develop it for a theatre space.

"Slide" is encoded under the software Max/Msp.
