NJARABUM

allegati

Njarabum, deals with eating disorders, by which one tries to get around and change physical (biological and physiological)laws of the body. It questions reasons behind distorted relation towards food and body, exposing anorexia and bulimia as illnesses of perfectionism, an attempt of reaching farfetched ideals (both of the physical and spiritual nature) and fulfilling extremely demanding personal criteria of perfection.

The connection between arts and science is achieved through a parallel between surrealism as the artistic movement that distorts and alters laws of linguistics and semiotics with persistent testing of physiological/physical laws of the body. The annihilation of both lexical rules and body rules - human biology, is yet to be theatrically examined - we will try to remain in a recognizable symbolic system.

The focus is on two lovers (Leona Paraminski i Marko Makovičić) stumbling under the weight of her illness. She is trying to do something about reality where mere existence of food threatens to destroy and swallow her whenever she even wishes to eat. The border between reality and her inner state of the world gets thinner and in her consciousness, memories, desires and traumas get entwined. She is trying to deal with certain relationships and question the ones right in front of her (Ana Kraljević as Mother and Petar Cvirn as Lover). She has to make a final decision - to let the illness consume her or to give a chance to a new life.
Performances' text is compiled from surrealistic plays and poetry of the late Croatian author Radovan Ivšić.

The show is taking place in the framework of the project "Focus on Art and Science in the Performing Arts" with the support of Culture Programme of the European Commission.
