Something young Italian companies lack is certainly performance spaces to show their work, to get reaction from an audience and have the chance to present themselves to theatrical operators. The Cantieri Culturali project aims to satisfy such needs and to offer young artists, young organisers and writers a space and an opportunity to work and present themselves.
The programme of the Cantieri Culturali includes events, exhibitions, shows, music contests, video shows and the Freeshout festival (now at its fifth edition).
The evenings of performance alternate with a busy programme of laboratories and workshops led by artists, actors, directors and choreographers, for the purpose of offering new talents a chance of growth and exchange through interaction with the great professionals of the artistic and theatrical scenes.
The structure of the programme encourages the construction of junctions, occasions for encounters between professional skills coming from different disciplines and different generations. The availability of spaces in the Ex-slaughterhouses of Prato also provides the chance to host theatrical companies, dancers and visual artists for short residencies.
For this reason the Focus project shares the aims of the Cantieri Culturali, which will host a number of the Companies selected in residence, offering the opportunity of interdisciplinary encounters and moments of performance, also in collaboration with the Festival Contemporanea.
