The Urban Body

THE URBAN BODY
Bodies, boundaries and new media in urban landscapes

encounter within the project

Focus on Art and Science in the Performing Arts
with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Commission

Moderators:
Andrea Mi (CityMix) and Marco Brizzi (Firenze Fast Forward/image)

Speakers:
Alessandro Carboni (artist/choreographer)
Pietro Gaglianò (visual arts curator)
Carlo Infante (Urban Experience)
Luca Lupi (artist)
Antonio Glessi (ISIA/GMM)
Giovanni Antignano/Selfish (artist)
Elisa Poli (critic of architecture)

Setting out from Alessandro Carboni's project Overlapping Discrete Boundaries, this encounter/laboratory aims to investigate the new directions taken by research; starting from different specific disciplines (urban studies, live media, photography, multimedia, choreography) these pathways meet and cross in the elaboration of new models for the interpretation of urban phenomenology.

Alessandro Carboni, as well as introducing his project Overlapping Discrete Boundaries to be presented on May 20 and 21 within Focus on Art and Science in the Performing Arts, will also show his documentary work on 12 Asian cities, now being published in the Abitare Review.

Pietro Gaglianò, setting out from the theoretical prerequisites of the Think Tank project, will draw a comparison between the artistic research of Carboni and that of other artists who have chosen urban territory as their main field of study.

Carlo Infante will introduce the Urban Experience project that promotes a new ambience of cultural planning, addressing the interaction between web and territory, according to the research approaches of the performing media and of shared urban planning.

Luca Lupi will speak about his photographic research A Changing China (presented in the form of an exhibition at the SESV Gallery of the University of Florence Faculty of Architecture), devoted to the swift transformation of social usage in the urban and cultural panorama of present-day China.

Antonio Glessi will comment on how the multimedia arts and new technological media are changing our way of perceiving and understanding the urban landscape.

Giovanni Antignano, in art Selfish, will present the InharmoniCity Project, arising from his collaboration with musicians of the U.S.O. Project and developed as an audio-visual experiment in interaction between the visual and sound dimensions of contemporary urban townscapes.
